Just for Fun

For older girls and Moms-- (like ten and up)

Lynn Visible by Julia DeVillers
Lynn Visible
I haven't read a sweet, fun, romantic young adult novel with nothing bad in it for sooooo long. I had zero problem with Mary picking up this book. She loves it. All about fashion. Try it! Perfect for Young Women age.

Beryl: A Pig's Tale
Beryl: A Pig's Tale by Jane Simmons. Books are being published now with more and more pictures. This fat chapter book has pictures on nearly every page. It's a fun, cute tale of pig survival in the forest. Try it for any animal lovers, and if they love it, read Catwings by Ursula LeGuin, all four! And Gooseberry Park by Cynthia Rylant. All ages.

Ottoline and the Yellow Cat
Another chapter book with almost all pictures. Shaemus even loves this book, and he's three, so I would say this is a read aloud for anyone. There's a second book that is just as delightful. There is plenty of funny in here to entertain adults too!

Dragonbreath
Another graphic novel, with lots of good text and lots of hysterical pictures. It's about a dragon who cannot breathe fire, but wants to be tough. It's a series, Dragonsbreath by Ursula Vernon. All ages.

And finally, another one for Mom's and possibly for their kids.
The Great Gilly Hopkins
The Great Gilly Hopkins by Katherine Paterson. I haven't read this book in so long—it is so amazingly good. There is language in it, because Gilly swears, but the swearing isn't cool. The good characters don't like it when Gilly swears, and she swears less and less as the book goes on. You could delete the words yourself if you read it aloud. A powerful book about love. For older kids, 9 up.

And for a picture book spotlight:
Tikki Tikki Tembo
Tiki Tiki Tembo by Arlene Mosel.
This book is hysterical. I love, love, love to read it aloud. One of the character's names is Tiki Tiki Tembo No Sa Rembo Chari Bari Ruchi Pip Peri Pembo. Just to give you an idea.

Okay, one more picture book I love, love, love to read aloud:
Three Little Ghosties by Pippa Goodhart. I LOVE this book. So fun to read and do a funny accent.

Okay, one more so fun read aloud:
Big Pumpkin
Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman. You can do a witch's voice, a vampire's voice, a ghost's voice, a mummy's voice, and a bat's voice. Get it!

  1. My list (from you) is getting long and I am getting more and more behind. Time to get reading! Good thing March Madness is almost done. We've been watching A LOT of basketball at night.
