We own this book, and we love it. Except for Calvin. It scares him a little, but the illustrations are amazing. And if you liked this book:
You'll like this chapter book too, with tons and tons of his amazing illustrations. It is a retelling of The Reluctant Dragon. Fun to read aloud to younger guys and fun for second, third graders to read to themselves.
In fact, check out everything by Tony DiTerlizzi. He has an alphabet book that is hysterical. All his picture books are great.

Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli
This is a classic and for a reason! It is such a good book. Read aloud to second, third graders. Older kids could read it to themselves. Amazing.
Freak the Mighty, By Rodman Phillbrick. I know I've posted this before, but I'm doing it again, because you have to read it. You just have to.
Read aloud with fourth graders. Or maybe on their own, (It is scary in parts) but adults must read this book on their own. You must. Before you die. Absolutely.
