BATTLE OF THE BOOKS—STAGE ONE

Selecting our books!

Here's how we're going to run Round One of the Eyre Battle of the Books:

1) Our family selected 42 books (there are seven of us, so six times seven is forty-two).
2) We took turns selecting one of the 42 books until we all had six books on our list (I helped the younger ones make sure they picked books appropriate for their ages).
2) Everyone will read their six books by June 16th.
3) Everyone will choose their favorite of the six books. That book will move on to round two.
4) If anyone has a strong contender from the 42 books they feel deserves a second look, two others must read the book. If they agree, that book will also move on to round two.

I hope this makes sense. It doesn't entirely make sense to me, and in no way will this be fair or objective, but so far, the kids are pretty darn excited about the whole thing.

Here's our forty-two books with the name of who is reading what on the right. Just for your info, here are the ages of the people in our family:

Sam—35
Lindsay—almost 34 and getting shorter
Mary—nearly 12
Lucy—10
Calvin—8
Shaemus—6
Flannery—4

If anyone would like to join us in our battle—you and your kids would be welcome! You can join us any way you please. I know most people wouldn't have the time or energy to get their children to read six books  by June 16th (though many of these are picture books—all pretty unique and interesting ones), but if you want your kids to read even just two or three of the books by June 16th and pick their favorite, we'll add it to Round Two.

In other words—Round Two is open to anyone who'd like to participate. Just let me know what book you think won from the list of forty-two, and we'll add it on. If you want your child to do a short video about the books they read and why they picked the book they did as the winner, I'd love to post it as well. This isn't a competition for the BEST book—the books are too different. This is a competition for your child's (or your) FAVORITE book out of the books they read, the book they would most willingly and enthusiastically hand to their friends.

Questions? Let me know!!!! And please join us. We'd love to make this a battle of great proportions!!!!
