Picture Books to get next time you go to the library

I'll do the mysteries of the Shaemus Eyre reader next time, but before I forget, I wanted to share some great new picture books.

First, Traction Man now has a third book:

Traction Man and the Beach Odyssey by Mini Grey

I love Traction Man so much, I must admit to being completely impartial to all these books. This book might stink. But Traction Man still has a pet scrubbing brush and this time he ends up wearing a lea and rescuing a sand castle, so how could it possibly be stinky?

Chopsticks by Amy Krouse Rosenthal

There are some seriously funny lines in this book, like, "Knife thought that deserved a toast. He's sharp that way." It makes me giggle just typing it.

Stand Straight, Ella Kate by Kate Klise
Product Details
The true story of a woman with gigantism who grew to be 8' 4". Inspiring and thoughtful. Loved it, and all my kids did too. They all stopped to listen as I read this aloud.

The Cloud Spinner by Michael Catchpool

Shaemus loves this book. That surprises me. It's a beautifully illustrated moralistic fairytale about greed. It is lovely, but I don't always associate Shaemus with lovely. I associate him with targets and broken broom handles he's made into swords and Captain Awesome. Goes to show you can't ever assume anything with kids and books!

Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Sight by Sherri Duskey Rinker
Product Details
Okay, this book sort of drives me crazy. But my kids LOVE it. Flannery could hear this thing ten times in a row and never get tired of it. And it does introduce them to construction equipment which we all know is essential for preschool children to learn about (?).

Have you been to the library lately? Did you know that the higher circulation your library gets, the greater the funding (generally speaking—okay, I just made that up. But it might be true. It's possible)?
