But Shaemus and I are reading a book that, together (reading aloud), we are really loving:
Gustav Gloom and the People Taker (Really well-written—funny and spooky. Great for boys! (and girls) (of course))
Flannery and Calvin and I began reading some of the stories in this last night, and it is AWESOME!
Fangs 'n' Fire by Chris Mould (This is a collection of short stories about dragons with perfect illustrations.)
Calvin read this:
The Philadelphia Adventure by Lloyd Alexander
and this:
The Small Adventures of Popeye and Elvis by Barbara O'Connor
And loved them both. Total adventure—and there weren't even any animals in them!
Lucy really liked this old book by one of the best authors of our time:
Goody Hall by Natalie Babbitt
And Mary was fascinated by this book:
The Toaster Project: Or a Heroic Attempt to Build a Simple Electronic Appliance from Scratch
by Thomas Thwaites
(Seriously, this is one interesting book. Like those books that show all the places in the world you would have to go to get the raw ingredients for a chocolate-chip cookie or a cherry pie.)
We're looking for recommendations around here. If you have any new or old loves—pass them on!
