Flannery's Birthday Books

Today is officially Flannery's Birthday! She is five. My baby. I hate that she is already five, but I love her little five-year-old self.

(Yes, those are envelopes on the wall—our language envelopes! And yes, those are Christmas stockings hanging on the wall. One day I will explain why those stay on our wall year-round, in case you were biting your nails with worry. :) )

We LOVE the books she got for her birthday this year (notice how I say we—every book is a family affair around here). I would say all of these books are worth purchasing, the first two in particular. They are most definitely worth checking out from the library (for kids of all ages).

Here is her list:

There Are No Cats in this Book by Viviane Schwartz (This is hands-down Flannery's favorite. Hysterical. We have to get the prequel.)
The Gift by Carol Ann Duffy (I particularly loved this one. It's strange and different, but absolutely beautiful.)
FArTHER by Graham Baker-Smith (Also lovely and strange and profound)
Fangs n' Fire: Ten Dragon Tales by Chris Mould
Just Ducks by Nicola Davies
The Orphan: A Cinderella Story from Greece by Anthony Manna
Ella's Big Chance: A Jazz-Age Cinderella by Shirley Hughes
The Princess and the Pig by Jonathan Emmett
