Favorite book of the past month:
Up a Road Slowly by Irene Hunt. Young adult romance. Beautiful. Love it. A must read.
(Although I don't really love this cover.)
Two great new books (and there are a bunch out there):
The Cardturner by Louis Sachar
There are three swear words in this book, but other than that it's clean. Brilliantly narrated. Interesting and I don't even play bridge. Sachar is a master. Young Adult.
Quirky. Plotless. I loved it (once I got past the first twenty pages). Young adult.
For your girls:
Pies and Prejudice by Heather Vogel
This is book four in the mother-daughter book club. These aren't amazing books. But still, they are fun, and they do expose middle grade girls to great literature.
Calvin and I have been reading The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart, Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo, and Everything on a Waffle by Polly Horvath--all middle grade novels. All great. Adventure, Dogs, and Silliness.
And for the picture book set, I want to introduce you to Steve Jenkins, if you don't know him already. He is an author an illustrator. His newest book is Hello Baby by Mem Fox (illustrated by him) and is for very young children, but his nonfiction books are perfect for kids six and up.

Happy Reading!
