While we were at fiddling camp, we read. (Because there were no TVs in the rooms!)
We read some awesome books.
I would recommend these to anyone going anywhere on vacation, and can I just say now that I have two books that I know will go on my all-time-favorites in 2013?
I can and I will. I've blogged about them before, but I've reread them since and my kids have read them and they are AWESOME.
Jinx by Sage Blackwood
The Water Castle by Megan Frazer Blakemore
I am in the process of deeply analyzing (deeply!) what makes these books so good. The story? The writing? I don't know, but they are magical.
Shaemus read these and LOVED them:
Grasshopper Magic by Lynne Jonell (part of a series—hooray! He wants to get them all.)
(I already blogged about this one)
Flannery loved:
Murilla Gorilla: Jungle Detective by Jennifer Lloyd (there are more of these too!)
Odd Duck by Cecil Castellucci
Calvin read and loved:
P.K. Pinkerton and the Petrified Man by Caroline Lawrence
The House with the Clock in its Walls by John Bellairs
Lucy read and loved:
Mable Riley by Marthe Jocelyn
Perilous Gard by Elizabeth Marie Pope
Mary read and loved:
The Loud Silence of Francine Greene by Karen Cushman
We all enjoyed:
And we listened to:
We also got a flat tire, which is a funny story I'm writing up for tomorrow's post. Thank goodness for kids who can sit on the side of the road and read books for hours at a time... In the rain...
